Moynalvey made the long journey to Millbrook a profitable one as they came away with the two points on offer when defeating Oldcastle in Division 2 of the JMB Sportsfield Services B League on Thursday evening May 24th.
Oldcastle 2-5 Moynalvey 0-13
Five minutes into the game things didn’t look good for Moynalvey as they found themselves a goal behind and also down to 14 men following the early dismissal of wing half back Johnny Carey. However Moynalvey adjusted their formation and posted five points on the trot to lead 0-5 to 1-0 after 27 minutes of play. Numbers were restored to 14 men apiece in the 28th minute when Oldcastle also had a man dismissed. The home side tagged on a late free before the break to leave the minimum between the sides, 0-5 to 1-1 in favour of Moynalvey.
The opening ten minutes of the second period saw Moynalvey produce a purple patch of scoring, building up a commanding 0-10 to 1-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Despite the close final score line Moynalvey should have been further ahead in the second half wasting numerous chances in front of the posts, as Oldcastle had done in the first. The home side came within five points of Moynalvey at the end of normal time, with the deficit reduced to just two points at the final whistle following a late consolation penalty for Oldcastle with the final kick of the game. Best for the winners were Conor Egan, Shane Browne, Anthony Brien, Luke Duffy, Alan Donnelly and Ciaran Ennis.
