Moynalvey’s second string shipped a heavy defeat at the hands of Moynalty on a 4-17 to 1-6 score line in this long awaited Junior ‘B’ Championship Round 2 tie played at Kilberry on Thursday evening July 7th.
Moynalty 4-17 Moynalvey 1-6
Following a couple of postponements along the way with Moynalvey’s David Donoghue involved in Meath’s Christy Ring success (twice) it was thirteen weeks since both sides played their first round ties, with Moynalvey overcoming St.Mary’s and Moynalty getting the better of Trim in their respective first round games.
The game was a lot more keenly contested than the score line suggests with six points between the sides after 44 minutes. However Moynalty were always in control of proceedings, having taken the lead in the 11th minute, leading by six at half time and running out twenty point winners in the end, hitting 3-5 without reply in the final quarter.
Moynalvey couldn’t have asked for a better start when Shaun Deering found the net with the game’s opening score in the 4th minute. Moynalty opened their account in the 7th minute with a superb point from Ollie Sheridan off the outside of the right boot over on the left wing. Moynalvey’s Ciaran Ennis sent over the 1st of his three converted placed balls to leave it 1-1 to 0-1 after eight minutes. Adrian Maguire pointed off the upright and two minutes later finished to the net past Moynalvey ‘keeper Giles Drum to give the North Meath side the lead, one they weren’t to relinquish.
The goal ignited Dudley Farrell’s charges, who kicked on to score five points on the trot, Ollie Sheridan (2), Carl Lynch, Adrian Maguire and Patrick Farrelly to lead 1-7 to 1-1 with five minutes of the opening half remaining. Moynalvey’s Shaun Deering sent over his side’s second point having done well to win possession along the sideline before cutting in from the right hand corner and splitting the uprights with his left boot. Moynalty’s Donal Lynch added another to his side’s tally and Moynalvey’s Paul Conneely fisted over a high side line ball in from Sean Duggan to round off the first half scoring, leaving Moynalty holding a five point interval lead on a 1-8 to 1-3 score line.
Within seven minutes of the restart Moynalty had extended their advantage to eight, with points from Alan Brogan, Adrian Maguire and Ollie Sheridan once again. Moynalvey’s Ennis sent over his second point, this time from a ’45 after his own initial effort at goal was deflected past the posts. Moynalty corner forward Paul Lynch pointed in the 11th minute which was followed by a brace of Moynalvey points, the first from Domininc O’Brien and the second an Ennis free after he was fouled late while offloading the ball, leaving six points between the sides with 15 minutes remaining, 1-12 to 1-6.
A Final quarter surge saw Moynalty run through a tiring Moynalvey at ease, racking up 3-5 without reply to record their second win of the campaign leaving them joint top of the Group A Table.
