Moynalvey lost out to Simonstown Gaels on a six point margin in this Seamus Connolly Junior ‘B’ Football Championship Group B final round group game played at Dunganny on Monday night August 27th.
Moynalvey 1-11
Simonstown Gaels 1-17
Simonstown Gaels started the better rattling off three points without reply from Shane McHugh and James Heaney (2). Moynalvey’s first score was a goal when a dipping shot from Shaun Deering found its way to the net to leave the sides level 0-3 to 1-0 after seven minutes.
A trio of Simonstown points from Shane McHugh and Shane McEnery (2), with a point from Moynalvey’s James O’Neill in reply left it 0-6 to 1-1 after 13 minutes.
Simonstown failed to score again in the opening period and four Moynalvey points from James O’Neill (2), Ciaran Ennis and Sean Duggan left the half time score 1-5 to 0-6 in favour of the side in maroon and white.
A Ciaran Ennis point in the first minute of the second period extended Moynalvey’s advantage to three but then it was Simonstown’s turn to hit four without reply, the scores coming from Seamus Kenny (2), Aaron O’Connell and James Heaney, leaving it 1-6 to 0-10 after eight minutes of the second half.
From this point on it turned into the James Heaney show as the Simonstown full forward turned in a devastating second half accounting for all of Simonstown’s 1-7 from this point onwards leaving his second half tally at 1-8, with a personal tally for the game of 1-10.
Scores from James O’Neill (4) and Brian Conneely in reply to four Heaney points had the sides’ level 1-11 to 0-14 with just two minutes of normal time remaining.
Any hopes of Moynalvey picking up any result were dashed through missing a couple of guilt edge goal chances, before that man Heaney put the game to bed adding 1-3 to his and Simonstown’s tally in the final five minutes to put that extra bit of gloss on the end score of 1-17 to 1-11.
Best for Moynalvey were Robbie Kiernan, Paul Conneely, Caragh O’Brien and the excellent James O’Neill.
