Moynalvey pushed Senior outfit St. Ultan’s all the way in this exciting Feis Cup encounter played in Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Thursday evening 25th June.
.
Moynalvey 1-14 St. Ultan’s 1-14
..
Moynalvey had to come from four points down in the last seven minutes of normal time to force extra time between last years Intermediate and Junior winners. The first half was a tit for tat affair, with the home side leaving the field a point ahead at the interval on a score line of 1-5 to 0-7, the goal coming through a speculative effort from Ciaran Ennis which looped into the net over the St. Ultan’s goalie in the 27th minute. Moynalvey’s other scores of the half came through points from Ennis, John Donoghue, David Donoghue(2) & Daniel Treacy. .
Within a minute of the restart, Moynalvey looked to further their advantage when they were awarded a penalty following good work along the bye line by substitute David Durkan, which resulted in David Donoghue being fouled in front of goal, John Donoghue stepped up to take the resulting kick, only to see his effort saved by the Ultan’s keeper. Moynalvey then added to their lead with a Brian Gilsenan point, only to see the lead reversed when Ultan’s goaled in the 36th minute, leaving the score reading 1-7 to 1-6 in favour of the Bohermeen men. Over the next 10 minutes, Moynalvey added two points to their tally from the boot of Stephen Donoghue, leaving the score 1-8 apiece with 15 minutes remaining. Ultan’s then gradually took control, rattling off four unanswered points. However Moynalvey got second wind & went on a scoring spree of their own with points from John Donoghue(2), Brian Gilsenan & David Donoghue leaving the score tied on 1-12 apiece at the end of normal playing time.
.
With both teams having played 60 minutes of intense football, extra time saw scores come at a premium, with both teams adding only a point a piece in either half of added time, both of Moynalvey’s efforts coming from the impressive Brian Gilsenan. Moynalvey had superb performances all over the field but special mention must go to Robbie Kiernan, William Mahady, Stephen Donoghue, David Donoghue & Brian Gilsenan.
