Moynalvey lost out to Dunderry on a 2-11 to 2-5 score line in the final of division 3 of the reserve league at Trim on Sunday afternoon October 9th.
Moynalvey 2-5 Dunderry 2-11
Dunderry avenged their Intermediate championship semi final defeat to Moynalvey by defeating the same opponents in the B league final. It was the team in black and white which opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, but they then fell behind when Ciaran Ennis blasted home to the back of the net from an acute angle for Moynalvey’s opening score in the 9th minute. Dunderry added a further 0-2 to their tally, with a William Harnan effort for Moynalvey sandwiched in between to leave the team in maroon and white ahead 1-1 to 0-2 mid way through the opening period. Harnan added a second effort in the 20th minute, but four minutes later Dunderry levelled matters. A superb piece of goalkeeping from Moynalvey custodian Ollie Regan in the 26th minute denied Dunderry raising a green flag of their own. However just before the break Dunderry did raise a green flag when a mishit free kick somehow fortuitously found its way to the back of the Moynalvey net. Dunderry added a free kick just on the stroke of half time to leave them ahead 1-6 to 1-2 at the break.
After the interval it was once again Dunderry who registered the first score of the half with a converted free kick. Moynalvey replied with an Ennis free kick, before the same player found the back of the net for a second time when a point attempt looped in over the Dunderry keepers head. Moynalvey lost full back Padraig Donoghue to a sending off mid way through the second period, but minutes afterwards had drew level with their opponents when Willie Byrne fired over. Dunderry regained the lead in the 49th minute, but sixty seconds later a superb Ennis point with the outside of the boot from near the sideline saw parity restored between the sides. However this proved to be Moynalvey’s last score of the afternoon as Dunderry’s player advantage began to count when they hit 1-3 over the remaining minutes, with Moynalvey further reduced to 13 men in the dying minutes with the dismissal of Brian Byrne.
