Moynalvey fell to defeat against Clann na nGael in their opening minor league game of the year played in very blustery conditions at Kilmore Park, Moynalvey on bank holiday Monday.
Moynalvey 1 – 5 Clann na nGael 3 – 8
Clann na nGael, playing with a strong breeze in the first half used this to full advantage and led by 1 – 5 to 0 – 0 after 15 minutes. However, Moynalvey then got into it and a brace of Feidhlim Cunningham points left it 1 – 7 to 0 – 2 at the break.
Moynalvey upped the tempo in the first 15 minutes of the second half and closed the gap through two more points from Cunningham, a monster pointed effort from Brian Reilly and a goal from Tommy Kane. However Clann na nGael got a second goal on the break and the full comeback never materialised despite a lot of Moynalvey possession. A third goal with the last kick of the game sealed a deserved victory for the Athboy/An Gaeltacht visitors.
Best for a young Moynalvey side were Gavin Byrne, who pulled off some superb saves, Johnny Duffy, Ian Douglas, Padraig Kelly and Brian Reilly.
