Club Senior Scór Final

By promoynalvey Fri 3rd Feb

The Co. Final of Senior Scór, the GAA’s talent competition for those over 17, takes place on Saturday 25th February at 7.30 pm sharp in St. Mary’s Hall, Navan (located in church grounds – entry from Trimgate Street).

Scór comprises eight separate competitions as follows :-
– Figure Dancing (group of 4 or 8)
– Solo Singing (accompaniment allowed) – One song.
– Instrumental Music (group of 2-5) – two tunes.
– Novelty Act (group of 2-8)
– Quiz (team of 3, all answers except team questions are written)
– Set Dancing (group of 4 or 8) – two parts of a set.
– Recitation (solo performers)
– Ballad Group (group of 3-5) – two songs.

Competitors must be 17 or over on 1st January 2012.

Competitors must be from the parish of the club they are representing and a group cannot comprise competitors from more than one club.

A club must enter a minimum of two of the eight events. There is an entry fee of €20 payable by the club regardless of the number of events in which it is participating.

While tunes, songs, recitations and sketches must be of Irish character, Irish language performances are not specifically required or given extra marks, nor is any knowledge of Irish required.

Entry Form :- The attached Entry Form should be completed and emailed to donalol@eircom.net by midday on Monday 20th February. Entries will be accepted on the night but we ask clubs make every effort to get their Entry Form submitted as requested so that a schedule and programme can be prepared.

Given that the competition comprises eight separate events covering music, song, dancing, quiz, drama and comedy, and that a club only needs a minimum entry in just two of the events, there is absolutely no reason why every club in Meath should not have an entry. The young people who can dance, sing, play music and act are in your parish and community. What is required is for your club to contact the relevant young people and get them to perform. The one key step required to achieve that is to get somebody in the club or the local community who has an interest in Irish music, song, dance etc. to be the Scór Co-Ordinator (your club’s Irish Officer is an obvious option but may not be the best option or even want to in all cases). Make sure also that contact is made with local schools, ideally through a teacher who is also involved in your club.

Select a Scór Co-Ordinator immediately therefore, give them the necessary information and that should go a long way towards ensuring an entry for your club in Scór.

Scór is a fantastic competition and a wonderful outlet for the entertainment talents of our members and potential members. Remember a person recruited to participate in Scór this year could be your club’s Chairman or Secretary in a few years time. Participation in the cultural side of the GAA is just as valid a reason to recruit members or for people to join the GAA as is the reason for playing our games. Scór is OUR competition in the GAA and it is clubs who must promote and support it. So get those talented people in your parish performing on stage and representing your club on 25th February. They are there but if they don’t know about it they cannot participate !!

Comprehensive information on Scór, including the Rule Book, is available on the Meath GAA web site.
