Blackhall Gaels got the better of neighbours Moynalvey in this Div. 2 B League game played at Batterstown on Wednesday evening April 30th on a 2-13 to 2-7 score line.
Blackhall Gaels 2-13 Moynalvey 2-7
Both sets of players knew each other well, with the clubs amalgamated from U-16 to minor level, resulting in some lads who are team mates at minor level with Jenkinstown Gaels lining out against each other.
An early scoring blitz from the Gaels laid the platform for a six point victory, which was also the difference between the sides at the interval. Blackhall Gaels started off the game with seven unanswered points, before the Moynalvey’s first point of the evening came from a Ciaran Ennis converted free in the 18th minute. The home side added three further points before the half time whistle, with Ennis converting a further two frees, leaving his tally and Moynalvey’s total at the break at three points, trailing their opponents 0-9 to 0-3.
Four minutes after the break Blackhall Gaels raised the first green flag of the game, extending their lead to nine points. Moynalvey launched a mini revival with a Ken Hyland goal after an Ennis point attempt fell short onto the cross bar and Hyland had the easiest of tasks of palming to the net. Hyland’s goal was quickly followed by two Ennis frees in the 38th and 39th minutes respectively, reducing the deficit to four points. However this was as close as Moynalvey got to their opponents as 1-3 without reply from the Gaels left them leading 2-12 to 1-9 after 49 minutes of play. Moynalvey finished the game with 14 men due to the dismissal of Stephen Whyte to a second yellow card in the 51st minute. Blackhall Gaels made it double score in the 52nd minute, leaving it 2-12 to 1-6. Moynalvey midfielder Brian Conneely scored the 4th goal of the game in the 56th minute with a screamer of a shot, while Ennis split the posts for a 7th time, leaving the Kilcloon/Batterstown side ahead by six points on a 1-13 to 2-7 score line.
