Back in 2011 Moynalvey were lucky enough to gain the services of Kilcock stalwart Barry O’Keeffe following his move to reside in the parish, what was Kilcock’s loss was most definitely Moynalvey’s gain. Barry’s first few outings for Moynalvey saw him trialled at various positions namely wing back, corner back, centre forward & centre back, eventually Barry made the No. 6 his own as Moynalvey went on to win the Intermediate Championship defeating Gaeil Colmcille in the decider, with Barry chipping in with a valuable point from his centre half back berth as he had done so in so many outings throughout the year.
Having been part of the team that brought Moynalvey back to the Senior ranks Barry continued playing first team for Moynalvey until his “Semi-retirement” after the 2014 season, after which he was appointed Moynalvey Senior Manager for 2015. Having guided Moynalvey to a famous Senior Championship win over neighbours Summerhill in the 2nd round of the SFC, Barry was also on hand to guide the Moynalvey second string to a Junior ‘B’ Championship Quarter Final, playing the role of Player/Manager togging out to help the team with his vast experience on several occasions when required.
Unfortunately at the end of the 2015 season Moynalvey learned that Barry would be unable to continue his role at the helm of Moynalvey GFC as he had work commitments abroad from the start of 2016. This week sees Barry commence his travel & work and we at Moynalvey GFC wish Barry and family all the best and hope to see Barry back involved at some capacity with Moynalvey GFC in the future!!
