Moynalvey 3-6
Ballinabrackey 3-10
An entertaining opening round game of the Meath Cleaning Supplies Div. 4 Premier Football Championship saw Ballinabrackey get the better of home side Moynalvey on a 3-10 to 3-6 score line.
Moynalvey opened the scoring after forty five seconds when corner forward Anthony Brien pointed, with the visitors responding two minutes later through full forward Evan Daly.
A second Ballinabrackey point was followed immediately by a point from Moynalvey full forward Darren Brennan to leave the score tied at two points apiece after four minutes.
1-3 without reply from the Bracks left it 1-5 to 0-2 at the quarter hour mark, their goal coming from midfielder Leo Cullen.
A well executed goal by Moynalvey wing back Conor Quinn narrowed the deficit to three points, 1-5 to 1-2.
A goal and a point from Ballinabrackey extended their lead to seven points, before a free from Moynalvey’s Vinny Walsh fell short and somehow deceived the Ballinabrackey ‘keeper Ciaran Cummins to find it’s way to the net, leaving it 2-6 to 2-2.
The visitors rounded off the first half scoring with points from Dean McNamee and Evan Daly to leave it 2-8 to 2-2 at half time.
The introduction of long serving player John Donoghue who was Moynalvey manager of the past three years and is current Kiltale hurling manager at the break proved immediate dividends as he claimed a mark and pointed within sixty seconds of the restart.
The same player split the uprights with the outside of the boot five minutes later to narrow the margin between the sides to four points, 2-8 to 2-4, with six minutes of the second half played.
A goal from Eoin Corrigan and a point from Darren Brennan narrowed the deficit to just a single point eleven minutes into the second half, 2-9 to 3-5.
Evan Daly and Shaun Deering traded scores to leave that one point between the sides with 48 minutes played.
Despite the dismissal of a Ballinabrackey player and numerical advantage Moynalvey could not gain that equalizing score and it was a third Ballinabrackey goal by Evan Daly two minutes later which proved to be the game’s final score, giving the Bracks the four point win, 3-10 to 3-6.
