Both sides finished the game with 14 men, Moynalvey playing the game with 14 for almost the hour following the early dismissal of Eamon Walsh, while Blackhall’s Sean Whelan saw red in the final minute. Moynalvey’s woes were further compounded in the 13th minute with the loss of Stephen Donoghue to injury.
Blackhall were guilty of numerous wides early on and It was Moynalvey who opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Fearghal McCabe. The home side eventually opened their account in the 15th minute with a Tadhg Brosnan point.
With 24 minutes gone the sides were inseparable, 0-4 apiece, but within the 10 minutes before half time Blackhall’s numerical advantage told as they scored 2-3 without reply to hold a nine point lead at the break, 2-7 to 0-4.
Ultimately Blackhall’s scoring burst before the break proved crucial, as the second half was evenly contested with the home side just pipping the scoring stakes 0-7 to 0-6, leaving the final score 2-14 to 0-10.
