Moynalvey travelled to Enfield on Sunday afternoon, February 3rd and came away with a share of the spoils after a hard fought, close and competitive A league Division 3 game against Na Fianna.
Na Fianna 2 – 5 Moynalvey 0 – 11
Moynalvey opened the scoring with a Robbie Quinlan free after 3 minutes and the first 20 minutes were nip and tuck with 3 Jamie Queeney pointed frees for Na Fianna being responded to by points from Quinlan (free), John Donoghue and Shane Collins. Na Fianna were then awarded a penalty which Queeney despatched and a further Queeney pointed free had the hosts a goal to the good approaching half time.
However, Moynalvey responded and playing some good football in very wet conditions, they scored 3 points on the bounce from Brian Gilsenan, Donoghue and Collins to go in level at the interval, 1 – 4 to 0 – 7.
Moynalvey took the lead in the second half courtesy of a Quinlan free and were well on top around the middle of the field at this stage. However, a second penalty awarded controversially enabled Na Fianna go 2 points ahead again as the rebound was finished to the net by an inrushing forward after Queeney’s initial effort was well stopped by Ollie Regan in the Moynalvey goals.
Both sides again traded scores as a Na Fianna point was offset by a similar effort for Moynalvey by Quinlan. James Weldon came off the bench to put the minimum between the sides with 5 minutes left and John Donoghue then held his nerve to point a 30 yard free in injury time as Moynalvey got a draw out of game they probably should have won, having outscored their opponents from play by 0 – 7 to 0 – 1.
